While on our farm we had dozens and dozens of cats over the 60 years there and one house cat, Bambi for 18 years. We also had, over the years 5 dogs and it is hard to make a determination as we all loved each other dearly with great affection but my Bambi had my heart the most. She pouted for the 2 weeks we went to Europe and took a half day for her to even acknowledge us when we came home! They can be moody where dogs aren't.

Dogs are much more affectionate. They miss you when you're gone, even if only for a little while. Cats could care less if you're there or not, except when its time to eat... Dogs will wag their tails and slobber and jump all over you to let you know that they noticed you weren't there. Cats... eh... they just yawn and go back to sleep.

Pure affection I would say dogs...though they are pretty easy to please. Cats on the other hand do not give away their affection lightly or without a really good reason. You have to really go all out for a cat's love and affection, otherwise they'd prosper fine without you. Dogs are more based on the simple fact that you are there for them, you feed them and you show them simple affection like petting them, I would say though they are the more affectionate of the two.

I reckon dogs are. Cats can be snooty some times. Don't get me wrong I love cats but dogs are more affectionate. Cats are cold sometimes.

Dogs. Cats are a kind of animal that prefer to be alone. Or wandering around outside.

Just walk out of the room and come back in. A dog will treat you like a rock star regardless... a cat might acknowledge your existence if you pet them or have food for them.
