I think this is a situation where everyone involved was wrong. Let's start with the noose hanging. Definitely wrong. Those kids should have been really told that was wrong. Now you have anamosity. People are mad. No one in that town step and said this is wrong we can not do this anymore. So they let that go unchecked. What happens when we do something wrong and we go unchecked? We get bolder and more arrogant. This didn't go from hanging nooses to a beating. there were soem things that happened in between. Not from there and don't know the whole story but human nature tells me there was more. if nothing more it was more back and forth. The white kids were mad because they got suspended. The black kids were mad because the white kids only got suspended. As far as the white kid that got punched. And I am saying punched because when I grew up and you got beat you got beat. No going to appointments later that night or the next day. You were down for a few days. But that kid should be made to understand that some things you do are offensive to other people and some people don't always accept stuff. In other words there are actions that if you do you will get beat. Some of them are as follows: Don't run from the cops, this will get you beat up on.Don;t take a swing at a cop, this will get you beat down. Don't go meesing with the president or the secret service will beat you down. That kid should take this and learn from it. Some things you do and you are asking for a beat down. This was one of those.

I saw this reported on a few sites today, and browsed a couple of the stories. They all lamented the unfair treatment of these kids, how and who was rallying around them for fair justice, and the problems within our society that this brings to light.

Well, I didn't find one word of what they had actually done that was causing such an uproar. Then, when I did find it, it was nothing more than a footnote.

They committed a serious crime. They could have killed that kid. Even if they didn't want to, they could have killed him by accident. I'm sorry, but I believe each of those boys has serious mental issues. When six teenagers decide to gang up and beat someone, they are not children.

Why doesn't that kid who was beat deserve justice? Is it because he's white?

If I had a son who had, with his friends, beaten another child, not heaven or hell would keep me from seeing he was properly punished by the law. And I would remind him that after twenty-two years in prison, he'd still have to come home and face me.

Let's ask this ....

....if the situation was reversed and it six white kids had beat a black kid, and those six kids received twenty-two years (a well deserved prison term for beating another kid, six to one), what would the reaction be then?

The "white" guys who hung the nooses could have been charged with harrassment. The "black" guys, Jena 6, who kicked the crap out of one of the "white" guys and now are being charged for attempted murder, may be an overstated charge. I don't know the whole story. I was not there and neither was most of America. There are 3 sides to the truth - the "white" side, the "black" side and the TRUTH.

The defense has obfuscated the charges in an effort to muster public sympathy and let the perps walk. .

It saddens me that 6 can gang up on 1, continue the attack even after the victim is unconscious, and gain public sympathy. One stood on the guy's head while the others kicked him. That is so vicious. They each need five years behind bars.

If they really wanted to end this matter, the perps would admit that what they did was wrong, apologize to the victim, and pay his medical bills.

Thanks to the rally today, they'll probably get a book and movie deal and make a lot of money from their random act of violence.

it's a debautry of the justice system. The crime is punishable...if anyone phsycally hits another, than there should be suspension or something. But to trial him for murder is injustice at work. the real problem is the city that has allowed racism and seperatism for so long. It doesn't take a civil activist to know that a noose hanging from trees could mentally affect a student.
It's an unfair jurisdiction that ruled out and epitomized the unfair treatments towards african americans in the city. It's shameful in so many levels. The most shameful level is that it's happened in the 21st century. It has brought out all sorts of racism, backlash of reverse racism, and double standard racism.

I might be cutting my nose off in spite of my face, but I think too many racial issues get stirred up when things of this nature happens. Everything these days is racial for crying out loud....Blacks blame whites, whites blame blacks....come on.
I totally agree that the white students got off too easy and should have been punished more harshly for what they did, but to beat someone down is another story. If the tables were reversed would Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackon still be there? If White men beat down a couple of black guys, what then, would it then be racist if the white men got the same punishment that the black men got for doing what they did? It is a vicious circle and nothing is ever fair or equal as long as one race is always going to quickly judge another.

Yes, thanks for asking, beautiful LostOne. A lot of the time, our country wants to ignore what is ugly, punish what is inconvenient and lie about the plain truth. Its the American way, or shall I say the way of the priviledged. Justice is a universal law, not an opinion or something with a color or pricetag on it.
The law and the enforcement of the law needs to
be swift, fair, equal and just. Not a double standard made to bend and conform. What is done in the dark ALWAYS comes to light. This is the reverse of the Duke LaCrosse case where the whole story is key to finding the truth and serving justice and the D.A. needs to step up and represent ALL of the people of Jena, not just the ones who will pat him on the back. Let's see how it all plays out.
Alls I know is I support justice and this black outfit
is HOT. Peace and love 2 all. (esp. the thumbs downers...uh, why people?)

I think it's disgraceful. And I don't mean just the six boys in the spotlight. I think the behavior of everyone concerned has been shameful, even the media covering the protest march. The kids' behavior that instigated it was shameful, the six boys' response was shameful, the school's response was shameful, the legal system was and is shameful, the media has been shameful, and Al Sharpton is shameful. It's one big disgrace. Americans are Americans first and foremost and all of these people have acted poorly or with an agenda. It's a sad state of affairs, but it shows what this country has turned into.

It's crazy... that just goes to show you how crooked the south(and the country) can be if they are going to throw all the black boys in jail, and just give the white guys probation for doing the same thing! The one white kid with a shotgun didn't get any time at all! and that's an incredible wrong.
