I am really scared about the USA. I am slightly removed from the situation, because I am a Canadian Citizen, and I feel we have gotten a much better deal from our government lately. I hope that we don't start doing what the USA is doing. With the wiretapping and spying on citizens going on currently, the USA is posed to slide into the mire of "Police State". You think communism was bad? Wait until "Corporate Police State" Happens in the USA. I am scared, and hope the you guys will be smart and vote democrat in the upcoming election.

In 1935, Sinclair Lewis published It Can't Happen Here, his depiction of a "democratically elected" US president imposing a tyranny on Americans. In 2007, life is imitating art. However, there are those of us who are willing to sacrifice and endure whatever is necessary for the cause of a more humane and just government and society.
America's Plutocracy preys on the weaker and less fortunate members of society." This plutocracy is the anti-enlightenment totalitarianism regime that is presently in control of the United States of America. It is the regime that is in charge of the world's only superpower. It is a regime steeped in the counter-Enlightenment, and it is bringing the nation to new lows. That which was unacceptable is now routine as torture and extreme rendition become commonplace. That which was venerated as the crowning jewel of Unites States republicanism is discarded as the Bill of Rights is shredded by the misnamed and acronymaniacal "USA PATRIOT Act". That which was once a prized accomplishment of society, literacy, is now no longer so considered as the president of the United States, the husband of a librarian, sees little value in reading books.

Truth be told, before we sink into a state of drastically reduced privacy and a total absence of civil rights - Americans are smart enough to know that America, or any other country for that matter, cannot be made terror proof. Any single individual or small group hell bent on causing indiscriminate death to innocent civilians can never be prevented 100% of the time - and we would have to be pro-active in discovering these plots before they are initiated 100% of the time in order to be 100% safe from terror - and this simply is an impossible task regardless of the intellegence gathering and surveilance capabilities we allow our government to have.
Perhaps we are on the right track in confronting this ideology of hatred and domination on theiir own turf. Obviously, we cannot allow their tactics of slaughtering innocent men, women and children to continue with pretty much impunity like we have in the past.

I agree with you, except for where have the Liberals been for the past 30 years?
Or is it just now that middle class America has gotten used to our lack of rights and now the Liberals are noticing the shoe on the other foot?
I can tell you that I have zero sympathy for terrorists. I can also tell you that I went to law school and got licensed and I practice criminal defense.
So, put your money where your mouth is.

Unfortunately, the executive branch has become tyranical in assuming the responsibility of all three branches of our government. The congress has been negligent in its responsibilities and has given the executive branch too much lee way.
A US citizen was held without access to legal council in Guantanamo because he was declared to be an enemy combatant. The executive branch became judge and jury. The bill of rights and constitution have been shredded. The Patriot Act has made the presidency an imperial monarchy. Our freedoms and rights are quickly disappearing in the name of security. This is not a time of war, this is a time of occupation.
Regardless of political affiliation, we need to impeach any president who willfully ignores the constitution that he was sworn to uphold. We must impeach the President in order to restore the balance of power in our country.
The executive branch attacked Iraq as a pre-emptive strike to prevent WMDs from being used against us. This concept of pre-emptive strikes is not well accepted, especially given the fact that most experts believe that there were no WMD threats.
American need to return to democracy and a government that respects the limits to its power.

And the answer is, once again, a bit fat NO.
When you commit a crime, you've already given your local government the warrant to give you the right to remain silent, and the right to take away all your other rights. Of course, HUMAN RIGHTS still should ensue, but that's it.
Unfortunately, the Bush Admin. doesn't even believe in human rights if they can get away with it.

The more you behave immorally and criminally the quicker you bring on the onset of the total police state.
More immorality = more corruption = more crime = the need for more cops,etc-etc

in this age of tightened secure practices, our government has had to make it extra troublesome for terrorists back right here and be experienced through our very own to dedicate terror against us. i'm unsure of what particular injustice you talk of, yet am conscious that there has been many controversal matters relating twine tapping, detaining foreigners, some for good reason, others not, via tightened secure practices. not plenty different from time-honored injustices related to strip searches that are unlawfully comprehensive, intrusions into peoples very own assistance, unlawful arrests / detentions. To errors is human, if for the sake of fantastic vs. evil, if their coronary heart is interior the final place, it particularly is the theory that counts. human beings would properly be interior the incorrect place on the incorrect time and be prosecuted to the completed quantity of the regulation who're thoroughly harmless, it particularly is incorrect, in spite of the undeniable fact that it happens. desire this touches base on what you have been relating.
