in space...or anywhere else, is there such thing as "dark matter"? like a thing of darkness that you can have in a jar or hold in your hand????

Yes indeed there is, it seems. However it's thought to interact with regular matter so weakly that it would fall right through the jar and down to the center of the earth without a fuss, or even being noticed.

Yes there is dark matter, but it's not "dark" as in black in color. They just call it that because we can't see it, it's floating in the blackness of space.
