Because that is the first step into changing our money for the North American Union. Mexico-U.S.-Canada. It is the same plan as the Euro. Ask the Libs about the "God" part. I'm sure they had it removed.

Since the "powers that be" (Unintellligent) thought they would get away with putting the "In God We Trust" on the EDGE of the new coins! The 5 PESO silver that Texas Rangers formerly made their badges from has an inscription on its edge as late as 1950.
I hope they learned from this that we are INFURIATED!
This is almost as bad as the 25 cent sized Susan B Agony "Dollar" that is available as change in post office machines since nobody wants them otherwise.

I don't know who is to blame, but I can say, I think with reasonable assumption, that our politicians are trying to please that small percentage of atheists, agnostics, homosexuals, (big percentage and growing) abortionists, euphenists, and non christians. You see this country "was" and I say was founded on christianity. Now I say was because now it seems the minority thou still the minority has most of the majority rule, it so seems. So now these little minions with their high opinions are ruling the country and instead of our having a god fearing, "good" society our country's moral values are going down in a tail spin so fast that the legacy of our corruption will surpass the fall of the Roman Empire. This country's snub to God is just that, and is getting worse day by day, you know the old saying, you reep what you sow, well I don't think I need to tell you more as you can see for yourself.

It isn't about religious zealots or martyrs, etc.; it's about the new world order.

As for different religions, all of them worship a "god", known by different names, so that shouldn't offend any of them.

There will be many changes, not just currency and coins as we have known them if this process cannot be stopped.

I am agnostic.
Not atheist.
I don't think we are wired to even comprehend God.
It would be like sitting dog in front of blackboard and trying to teach dog calculus.
I can't imagine the creator of Universe worrying about the new dollar coin.
I don't think the creator of Universe worries about ANYTHING.

You stuck on that OLD TESTAMENT God?
The Muscular biped with the beard.
That gambles with devil at hapless humans expense(JOB).
The jealous GOD. The Angry God. The vengeful God. The Petty God. The cruel God.

Your protest is 700 Club nonsense.

To annoy Republicans. Did it work?

Eogist - how fast are they printing it? How much has the money supply increased since say 2004? What is our current inflation rate?
Don't know? Didn't think so.

M1 - the measure of actual currency (plus central bank guarantees) in the economy has not grown substantially since the early 90s. They actually are hardly printing any more.
Inflation is currently running less than 3% annually despite the dropping dollar.

While Bush has hardly done a good job of running the economy we are far more in danger of the imminent recession than drastic overheating driving prices upwards.

Once upon a time, it was backed by gold; then by god; now by the whim of the printing press. They print it so fast for any old cause that I expect hyperinflation within weeks, if not days.

Its still on the coin.

But the reason is simple. The religious right has made such an issue of trying to force their version of religion on everyone else, that a lot of people have pushed back--and one of the side effects of that is a tendancy to try to remove religious references like "In God We Trust" from currency.

It's an overreaction, granted--but the religious right have no one to blame but themselves.

This more thanjust a sociological observation--there is a solid legal logic behind it. When the religious right has repeatedly tried to insinuate their religious eliefs into the state (as by posting the 10 Commandmets in public buildings) advocates of civil liberties have responded by taking legal action. But--the inevitable legal logic of such cases (legitimate in and of themselves) is to open the door to extremist elements on the opposited (the more assertive athiests, for example)--who have used the legal precedants the religious right brought on themselves as a vehicle to file suits attempting to remove that phrase from coins (plus other, similar "issues").

That's the mechanics. The underlying principle isthis--the religious right is intolerant of difference--and as always, intolerance has bred intolerance.

I think it just looks cooler on the side. I dont think the designers had any intent of causing a ruckus over this. Its still on the coin, and there are very few countries in the world that would do this.

God Bless America!

It has no significance at all. It was just the coin design style.

It was there on other coins in the past...20 dollar gold piece for one.
