had he given up on the liberal montra - of talking til your enemy is blue in the face?
Why did they burn hundreds of thousands of innocent German civilians to death with their incindiary bomb runs at night? Were the democrats just stupid then or did they realize that sometimes in war the end justifies the means.
Where is a good Democrat like Truman when you really need one or have all the good ones turned Republican?

Our positioning in Iraq has as much to do with Iran as it does with saddam, bin laden and the hot bed that part of the muslim world has evolved to.
Saddam was a means to and end - get it now?

crabby bill- it is now apparent that "top contributor" has nothing to do with accuracy- civilians WERE deliberately targeted to make them put pressure on japans leaders to stop the war. Incindiary bombs were purposly used by the millions as virtually all homes (not factories) were wooden structures. BYW top contributor, in many countries more civiliams were killed in WWII than members of the military.

Hey, if they hadn't dropped those bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the war would have dragged on and we would have either lost another 100,000 troops or even lost the war. Now that is unthinkable. We need to be NICE to the enemy. Our troops are second guessed by some left leaning media and brought up on charges. Yes, all the good Democrats have turned Republican. John F. Kennedy or Truman would never even recognize the Democrats now.

It could possibly have had something to do with our enemies then actually being a potential threat to us?
Ok - quick history lesson for you. We went to war with Japan because they attacked us. Japan and Germany had a mutual protection pact - therefore we were automatically at war with Germany (and Italy) whether we liked it or not. So how many germans had killed Americans is irrelevant.
No matter how much you try to cloud the issue nobody from Iraq attacked us. Iraq was a secular state - so your comment about radical muslims only demonstrates the difference.
So - cut the read more talk less crap - you have produced nothing that would justify a smug condescending nature such as that. Ignorance and misinterpreting history are nothing to be proud of.

First of all-Truman wasn't president until the very end of the war. Second--the Germans had killed several thousand Americans by sinking hundreds of American merchant vessels off our coasts (NOT counting ones bound for Britain)--some in full view of the Eastern seaboard.
So why didn't we enter the war earlier in response? Because CONSERVATIVES kept blocking it--they were openly supporting HItler even when he was attacking the United States.
As to the rest--the incarceration f the Japanese Americans was wrong--and everyone--including the Democrats--has admitted that--and reparations were paid--a Democratic initiative passed over the objections of conservatives.
A lot of civilians were killed in thebombings. But civilians were not deliberately targeted the way terrorists target them--the war production plants, etc. were the targets. But technology of the time did not allow for the kind of precision bombing we can do today.
In short--every one of your charges is biased, inaccurate, or downright wrong. Go learn some history.

You need to go back to the history books and read up on Truman. He'd wanted to be a soldier, but was rejected. His experience in a nationalized Guard unit and later turned him against the military, and he almost destroyed it, with the wholehearted assistance of Johnson as SecDef.
He was overwhelmed when he unexpectedly became President and let things continue more or less on autopilot. His interest in the atom bomb that he ordered used at the end of WW II was so great that he refused to have a briefing on post-war nuclear strategy until well into his second (I guess you'd call it second) term, and he was shocked to find that we only had a handful of bombs in the inventory. He'd never asked, and he'd routinely put off briefings when the Pentagon asked to give them.

Obviously you were born after WW2. Had you been living in this country back in those days you would have cheered for our country just as I did. We all sang "When Johnny comes marching home again, hurrah, hurrah" because it was obvious to us that Truman had just ended the war. You might have cheered too if nearly half of your living relatives were serving either in Europe or in the Pacific.

Was it George Wallace that said, there's not a dime's worth of difference between 'em? They are now (both Rs & Ds) absolute wimps, underminded by their respective intellectual bankrupcy. Truman was a jerk on many fronts, but looks like a giant when compared to today's brood.

I think it's appalling regardless of which party the President belongs to.
There wasn't a 24/7 news media then and if the people of the country knew about it immediately after it happened things would have been different.
