You trust unnumbered people every day so you may as well get used to it. If you really can't trust anyone then you can't drive, because every other driver is untrustworthy. You can't live in a house you unless you built it yourself, because you can't trust the builders. You can't use lumber you didn't cut yourself because you can't trust the loggers. You can't eat food you didn't grow yourself from seeds you domesticated yourself because you can't trust the farmers going back over so many centuries--they're all slimeballs that would stab you in the back soon as look at you! You can't wear clothes that you didn't make yourself from cotton you grew, spun, domesticated yourself, you can't use a computer you didn't design, build (including creating all of the materials without trusting anyone else to design or build them) or write the OS yourself. You can't wear glasses, use a telephone, write with a pencil on paper, walk down any road or street, etc, etc, etc, without trusting countless other people.
So you know a few people who are back-stabbing sumbatches? So does everybody. That doesn't change the fact that you unthinkingly trust thousands upon thousands of other people WITH YOUR VERY LIFE on a daily basis. Do a few rotten apples really spoil such a gigantic barrel?
I blame the lawyers for destroying the concept of the reasonable person. You can trust a generic reasonable person reasonably well, or could before the lawyers decided unreasonable was more profitable. Actually even most lawyers are decent sorts, and so despite all the flak from every which-whither, you can extend trust from the unthinking sort to the thinking without too much risk. You are going out on a limb when you decide to place total confidence in another person, and that is where you're most likely to get burnt. But nontheless, if you allow yourself to trust line upon line, degree upon degree, then eventually you come to know who can endure the weight of full confidence and who is likely to bend or break.
The world is filled with marvelous, interesting, decent people, so don't hide from them by taking up with that ridiculous pseudo-cynicism that is so popular among intellectuals.

Honesty shows the true face, and the honest face is the most beautiful if you are honest to it.
When feelings change, it is best to just deal. Some people hide faces forever, some put new ones on without even knowing it. YOu just have to be ready to face it.

A true philosopher sees the world through non objective eyes. Just because I drop a rock and it falls to the ground, doesn't mean it will always fall to the ground. And that one time is doesn't fall, I won't be surprised. In life, those that live always expecting the rock to fall are not as trustworthy because they take things for granted. Only those who realize the true possibilities life holds can handle the joyful burden of trust.

Trust no one, life is a journey we take alone.
Though at times others may be around, even your best friend will turn on you under the right circumstances....
Don't get me wrong,I am not saying everyone is less than trust worthy...But he who gives his heart (or trust) to the world shall be torn to pieces....
Trust is something that must be earned, not given away freely...

You can. Provided your trust, your feelings and your face do not changed over time.

It's called "trust" for the very reason that it's difficult to see past personas, so at a certain point, you have to take a person on faith and "trust" them. Otherwise, there'd be a less tenuous way of putting it.

But the heart and soul can never be hidden away.
Look at them if you want to see me
Many faces I may have each day.
But only one spirit I may be.

We must learn to live through day to day experiences accepting all possibilities, we can only examine the flow of life to guess, but to wait with each foreseen possibility thought through to an effective responce, we can live our lives in truth to ourselves instead of in reactence to others. Instead of letting occurances dictate our lives, we can instead be true to ourselves and do as we see fit to survive without any fear to breed distrust...... In short, first trust yourself, then you will find no reason to distrust others. (If you interpret that as 'the guy with the gun is cool, he has candy' then you should learn to look a bit deeper if in the pursuit of philisophical wisdom.)

We can trust based on instinct or by knowing a person well. sometimes we will have our trust challenged, but many times it will have been warranted. It is really more of trusting yourself to allow the trust of others.

You can't, but you take risks out of necessity, right? Not only do feelings and faces change, but they can also be illusions. A person could only be pretending to be nice but inside they just want to strangle you to death.
