How is having Hawaii an asset to the US?

Question

I'm writing a paper and would like to know your thoughts on how Hawaii as a state has been or can be an advantage to the US.

I will not plagiarize or copy your answers. I'm only interested in collecting different points of view in order to develop my understanding on the subject more fully.

Thanks to everyone for the answers. Even to those responses that may seem a little lacking have helped to no end. I've been writing papers for school all week (independent study-type classes) and I'm just so tired. I can hardly think for myself. I'm sitting here with my Mellencamp and my Buffalo Springfield trying to wind down with a beer<~~Shame on me!

You can copy my answers if you wish, as it is the height of ignorance and foolhardy arrogance for anyone to believe he 'owns' the words he thinks, writes or speaks (the same goes for any idea, or concept, or abstraction) and therefore should be uplifted in prestige and money every time someone who somewhat agrees with him attempts to express concurrence.

Offhand, I suspect Hawaii is a good strategic military post. It sucks foreign cash in year-round from international tourists. Not much else comes to mind except that it produces pineapples, maybe sugar cane, and cannabis sativa.
