when you get older, you'll find that money is not the most important part of a career.

I get satisfaction every day.
Every day is different.
I decide what to do and when to do it.
I am connected to thousands of lives.
I have now been teaching long enough to see engineers, musicians, teachers and business owners come from my former students.
I have connections to entire families that run through my school.
I soon will see children of my former students
I see students when they have that "aha" moment
I get to teach about the grandeur of life and the beauty of mathematics.
I am stopped often at public places by adults who I barely recognize but say that they were in my class years ago.
I have parents who send me food because I mentioned I liked a certain dish, and they wanted to share their version.
I get thanks, smiles and appreciative gestures daily

no job could ever compare, many adults wish to have what I have.

for me its not just career, its a calling.

Contrary to what many people think-- people don't choose teaching because they couldn't find a higher paying job! Honey, I graduated from a TOP university and chose teaching. It is a calling. It takes a special kind of person to be an effective teacher!
Most that I know, say they chose the PROFESSION because they enjoy working with children and want to make a difference. Which teachers do you remember most? I am sure it is the one who made you feel like she cared about you and your life! I am sure it is the one who went above and beyond to help you. Any successful person will credit a teacher or teachers who made positive influences in their lives. It means a lot to a child to have a teacher believe in them

I always remember that when my life is over, no one will care how much was in my bank account-- that money will not last-- but the difference that I made in the lives of children will.

For many, myself included, teaching isn't a job, or just a career--it's almost a lifestyle. That being said, I think many in the profession view being a teacher almost as being a "calling." I think that really good teachers see it as that. I also think that many see teaching as their way of doing good in the world. If the life or future of one student is changed, then a teacher has done some small part to impact the world at large. For me, that is one of the most rewarding aspects.

Because they love children, love to teach, and want to help others learn.

It's sad that you consider teaching a job and not a career. Are you a teacher?

Some of these answers are idiotic. Teachers do just fine. It's a stable job that won't be outsourced. After three years it's almost impossible to fire you, and then you're set for life with great benefits, perfectly livable pay, and plenty of time to make more money.

In college I met so many people who left their old professions for teaching. It's a hard job, and it can drive you insane working with kids all day... kids aren't very cool. But if you can get over that aspect, it's real easy and stable, and you won't wake up one day after 7 years of work to find that you've been fired because they want to hire a 19 year old in India for your job.

A job is something you do for the pay check, a career is something you do because you enjoy it and happen to get paid. What you may think is a job, others may think of as a career and vice versa. Just do the world a favor and do something love to do, rather than just something you get a pay check for.

I teach because I am more motivated by helping others than I am motivated by money. Just as education does not grant wisdom, money does not grant happiness. In the long run, I am more fulfilled by seeing a kid learn something new than I am fulfilled by a full wallet.
I am constantly challenged to grow in my profession. I have rich life experiences because of my interaction with many types of people, literature and the arts.Sometimes, it is not the destination that is great, but rather the journey.

Because teaching is something they enjoy no matter how much they get paid. Some teachers enjoy knowing that they put a bit of knowledge into a child's head everyday.

I did not choose it...it chose me.
Teaching is a calling, and if money is a main motivator this job may not be for you. But, it is challenging, rewarding, each day offers new possibilites, and unlike most proffesions, YOU CAN SEE THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR!!!
