They are rare but for that very reason protected and indeed we do have a preserve or restricted area not far from my home, into which children disappear every now and again,scattered bones being found sometimes around the perimeters of this strange sanctuary. It is not however true that they have one eye. Their ocular apparatus is normal as is their appetite.

Yes but the last time was way back in the 60's, and they're extinct now. No one ever put them on the endangered species list so none were ever preserved. So sad isn't it?
