If you do, how could you think the 6 boys were treated fairly? Do people who say "throw the Jena 6 in prison for life" know the facts? or are they just ignoring them?
I suggest a read:

There's A LOT more to it than some nooses and a retaliation. Nobody is defending the use of violence at all. We're just saying everyone who resorted to violence should be held to the same standard.

andy g- nobody is claiming "justification" for the violence. what we're saying is there's no justification fro the charges, or ignoring the actions of others for similar crimes. If "justification" is what you're looking for, you won't find it ANYWHERE in Jena.

How_Would_I_Know- should the white "thugs" go to jail too, or just the black "thugs"?

After reading most of the answers I can see that these people only like to get all the fact when it suits there needs.

The 6 people do deserve to be punished.

However did you people know that the kid that got beat up had a loaded hand gun? No you don't hear that very much on the news.

Also did people know it was more then just the nooses on the tree that caused the 6 kids to jump the other kid? No, they didn't. Alot of other things lead to the kid getting jumped. Too bad people only listen to Fox news a little too much.

Yes I understand it.

When it was white boys beating up a black boy none of the white boys were charged with attempted murder....but the black boys were.

They ALL should have been charged the same.

Everyone seems to not know about the other attacks or doesn't care about them and then they refuse to admit that this white kid was at a school function later that very same night.

Here's a thought, if you don't want people hitting you, don't hit them first! This kid that was beaten was an aggressor in a previous fight against a black kid!

There is no past justification for a 6 against 1 beating!

Regarding your question You seek justification Why is it not being treated as a hate crime? Think First

6 thugs attacked and brutally beat another kid.

That's the facts. That's the only relevant information.

They did it. They belong in jail. Anything else is supporting and defending their crime. Period.

If you want to address some other issue.. these 6 criminals are not the correct focus.

i dont like to bring this up but there is racism and bigotry and prejudice. that kid does need to pay for the fighting but not be charged with attempted murder. the d.a. needs to reconsider or he needs to be reviewed on a fair level by louisiana state bar

what repulsive behavior of Louisianans - the assistance the entire nation expressed after the Katrina disaster - and to think they should respond with this bastardization of jurisprudence - justice is what America stands for - and they spit in its face - sad
