since its in those bracket type things, it means taht everything in there should be positive so itll be 8x+5=9x+7
this goes into x=-2

|8x-5|=|9x+7|
Four possibilities: ++, +-, -+, --
1. 8x-5 = 9x+7
-12 = x
2. 8x-5 = -(9x+7)
8x - 5 = -9x -7
17x = -2
x = -2/17
3. -(8x-5) = 9x+7
-8x +5 = 9x +7
-2 = 17x
x = -2/17
4. -(8x-5) = -(9x+7)
-8x + 5 = -9x -7
x = -12
So, the four possibilities provide two answers. You only have to do two things.
One, assume both terms are the same (positive)
Two, assume one term is positive and one is negative
Checks:
|8*(-12) - 5| = |9*(-12) + 7|
|-101| = |-101|
101 = 101
check
|8*(-2/17) - 5| = |9*-2/17) + 7|
|-16/17 - 5| = |-18/17 + 7|
|-5 16/17| = |5 16/17|
5 16/17 = 5 16/17
check

Homework cheater! maybe you will learn something right here however... First, keep in mind the order of operations. Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply, branch, Addition, Subtraction "Please Excuse My pricey Aunt Sally" is a robust thank you to keep in mind the order. Now ruin the undertaking down in that order. So we do parenthesis first. there is basically one. You multiply the exterior by ability of each little thing in the interior. 5(x-7) interprets to 5x - 35 because of the fact 5 cases X is 5x and 5 cases 7 is 35. So now the undertaking appears like this: 5x-35+8x=9x-19 you prefer each of the x's on one component and each of the non x's on the different component. you basically change them over and substitute symbols. in different words, you may desire to subtract from one component and upload it to the different. 5x+8x-9x = 35-19 Now do the mathematics the place issues are an identical. 5+8-9 = 4, so it may be 4x on one component 35-19 = sixteen, so it may be sixteen on the different Now you have 4x = sixteen. you may desire to get that 4 off of the x. you are able to divide the two factors by ability of 4 to try this. x = 4 is what you have left. the respond is that "x=4". you are able to plug 4 into each x in the unique equation to envision the respond. If the two factors are equivalent you be conscious of its suitable.

you just solve it normally, then at the end apply the absolute value.
(8x-5) = (9x+7)
-5 -7 = 9x - 8x
-12 = x
|x| = 12
so x = 12

Sqaure both sides to take out the modulus, since any expression squared will be positive.
64x^2 - 80x +25 = 81x^2 + 126x + 49x
Use the general quadratic formula to get x = -2/17 or x = -12.

i think that the answer is x=2
if you subtract 8x from 9x you get the x on one side. then you subtract 7 from the other side leaving -2 but since it is within absolute value it won't be negative, so just 2. sorry if it is wrong...it's been awhile, but i am pretty confident in my math.

Place the variables on one side of the equation and the constants on the other side and solve for X.
Answer: X = -12, BUT SHOW YOUR WORK! Otherwise it's worth nothing.
