i am the typical 13 yr oldgirl: skinny, brown haired blue eyed
it just seems that writers always call for someone with unique looks
like plus sizes (like tracy in hairspray)
and hispanic or asian or black people. i have a lot of talent but it seems like there are no roles in broadway or musicals i'd fit! help!

Do a search on http://stageagent.com/ using the Part Finder feature on the upper left hand corner. You can't search by race/skin color, but age, voice range, etc. can all be factors.

Another good resource is http://www.musicaltheatreaudition.com/joomla/
You can look up many shows and they often have more details on the roles here than stageagent. Just click on shows on the top right then you'll get an alphabet to choose from and I'm sure you can figure it out from there. They also have tips on stage fright, a message board so you can talk to people about other theratre related things...

One great role for you would be Frederika in A Little Night Music. If you dance ballet that is. There's also Alice in Alice in Wonderland, several roles in Anne of Green Gables, Bugsy Malone, Annie (if you're short), Bye Bye Birdie, there are TONS!

good luck!

Find someplace that's doing Hairspray! That's the easiest...

And, I feel like I should point out, any director worth his/her salt, will only go so far to cast an actor based on looks alone. As long as you have the talent to back it up, you always have a shot.
And if not, keep trying. Remember, certain aspects of physical appearance can be changed (i.e. hair style, hair colour, eye colour (through use of contacts), certain elements of a person's body...etc. etc.). But it's hard to come by true talent, whether you're born with it, or taught.

Good luck!

Yes, but you need parental support to audition for them. Grab a copy of backstage and move to New York.

A really great website to find this out is http://stageagent.com/ You just enter your age and voice part and type of show and it gives you a list!
