In the immortal words of John Steinbeck, "Fµck 'em."
Love whoever you want to and be with them as much as you possibly can. You never know when they may not be around any more. Since when did love care about criticism anyway?

who and what is society telling you to love or not to love? I'm left to make general assumptions about your actual issue.

But generally speaking:

God created us and we choose to reject him. When we do so we are susceptable to all sorts of deceptions. Just because I feel something that doesn't make it right. Many times our feelings are wrong or drive us to do wrong. Pedofiles will tell you they love the children they abuse. Did God create that "love"? Is it God's will for us to act on every impulse and feeling? Clearly not.

Therefore it's not peoples' criticism that should concern you. They are just as flawed as you. It's God's will that should concern you. Seek His will, not man's approval.

God's love is perfect. We are highly imperfect apart from Him.
