that depends on what all has to be done ...you cant just take a light down and hang a fan from the ceiling box if you are a contractor or electrician...you have to make sure the box is mounted on something strong enough to hang the fan on..such as a celing joist or a celing fan box holder ....this a metal piece you mount between ceiling joist to hang box from so it will hold up fan plus if you want the switch to just turn off lights and fan or lights and not fan or if you want seperate switches for each function......about 65 to 85 dollars for the service call plus 40 to 60 dollars an hour labor plus parts....if you do not do this yourself you have to hire a licensed electrican or an licensed electrical contractor...you just can not hire anyone to do electrical work...

I see an answer or two telling you that you have to get into the attic to provide a support across the rafters, for a ceiling fan... you do NOT have to do it that way. There IS a support that you can purchase from your local hardware store that will fit into the existing light box opening, and is designed to span to both rafters. You simply remove the old box, and slip this new one up inside the space, adjust it to fit, and youre set.
When replacing lighting fixtures you are NOT required to use a licensed electrician, in most parts of the country. You Would want to use a licensed electrician if what you are going to have done requires a permit from the local authority. (Installing fans at existing light fixtures does not usually require this).
If you can reach the ceiling, you can do this yourself. If however you want to hire the work out, you can expect to pay more for a licensed electrician (after all, he has to pay for that license and insurance)... or you can find a local contractor, handyman, or even have the store come out and install it for you. A licensed professional will run you $50 minimum, and quite possibly a lot more. Get some local estimates and quotes... there is too much variance from different locales here on YAnswers :)
Good Luck

Installing a ceiling fan has been made pretty simple in the last few years. You have to pay attention to the electricity, but if your ceiling light is operated from a wall switch, that is easy to do.
Ceiling fans from Home Depot and others come with great instructions and everything you need to do the job.
I have personally installed 10 ceiling fans and in the last few years, the job has gotten very easy.
I would estimate that an electrician could do one in an hour. That rate plus trip charge would likely be in the $100 range for labor.

if you are going to contract it, you are going to pay any where from 65 to 95 dollars an hour depending on the shop you hire. personally if the box is properly supported and its just a matter of taking the fixture down and putting the fan up i can do one in less than 20 minutes, if your box is not properly supported (if there isn't one there then it probably isn't) then you'll need to install bar hangers which isn't that difficult, but you have to get in the attic which makes the price go up., you should look at paying a contractor around 100 to 150 per fan, that is assuming you provide the fan, if the contractor does then more than likely he will add about 15% onto the cost of the fan itself for having to pick it up and haul it. good luck

I would expect to pay $100. This price could go up if you needed any new switches installed.

this is a snap in case you have the suited container in the ceiling! i might get a pal to assist except you prefer to spend money? Screw the bracket in the container, stick the fan in the swivel notch so it is going to swing all around loose, place green cord to floor, warm cord to warm cord, white cord to white cord, place defend around wiring with screws, convey mutually blade brackets one with the aid of one, place blades on brackets with one on the two area first to maintain it balanced, whilst they're fasten on it would be waiting to pass.
