I didn't used to Bex but I can now. Best policy is to own up and say sorry if it involves someone else. Mistakes are not bad things as we always learn something by them.

Yes. And I frequently do. Even if to no one else other than myself. As a research engineer I make -bunches- of mistakes and I admit them to myself (hopefully before they become public). But it they do get out, the best thing to do is say, "You're correct, that was an error on my part."

Absolutely...and the reason FOR this is the fact that the very BEST professors I had made it a point to do so. We learned more from those who said...(in essence)..."I'm going to tell you what I did...and why it didn't work so you won't do the same dumb thing(s)
