Are different tons bigger or smaller depending on what ton they are? My neighbor has this really small looking one and I am getting 2.5 ton AC so I was wondering if the sizes were different.

Are Carrier Air Conditioners good? Like I said I am getting a 2.5 ton 13 SEER A/C unit.

The tonnage-12000 BTU = 1 ton and the SEER rating (seasonal energy efficiency rating will determine your condenser size. The more surface area the mor heat can be dissapated. A 13 SEER will be larger than the 10 SEER of many years ago even with the same tonnage.

Only the last 2 answers made sense, however u stated that your a/c can cool 5 degrees per minute and in less than 25-30 minutes you'll cool down 5-6 degress' i don't like the sound of that a/cunit could be oversized or in this case it sounds like u have great attic and house insulation added after the original install. If u did update the insulation make sure the attic has proper ventalation. The problem is we as HVAC Pro;s will say your a/c is fine and it's just hot outside, the truth is yes it will work a little harder but still should reach the temp. u set it at and this is called ENERGY MANAGEMENT something not alot of Pro's or homeowners know. Go with your gut feelings if u feel somethings not right call a HVAC Pro that specializes in energymanagement to do a load calulation on your house and make sure alls ok it's worth the money and you'll be surprised by the results. Also check filters every month and make sure no airflow is blocked or covered up.

Carrier is a good brand and they have service centers nationwide with available parts. this is better than imported A/C's which might run out of spare parts and you have to wait for them to import it. the machine that goes to the outside of your house if you are installing a split type. It does depend on the tonnage of the A/C, 2.5tons is equivalent to 3horsepower. but since this is one of the smallest it comes in then the compressor should be smaller. you can check the manufacturer spec by going to the appliance store or have them fax the specs to you.
