I am 19 yrs old and taking online classes for college but I need a part time job so I am now working at subway. I just started working at subway today. It was ok but I felt insecure and embarrassed because I work across from Bally Total fitness GYM (the Gym I work out at) There are alot of muscular cuties with hot bods that train at Ballys :) I'm afraid some of them might come into Subway while I'm working and see me! They might think I'm immature or something like that!!! My dad hates that im working at subway and wants me to work at the Veterinarian office downtown because it relates to my major but, its kind of far :( what should I do??

hey i'm way older than you and i work at subay. i like it. it is one of the easiest jobs you will find. and there is nothing wrong with working there. there are lots of people your age and older who works for subway. so it is across thes street from the gym it is a health food place, maybe they will come there to eat and you can wait on them. they may just be happy you have a job. good luck. it is a good place to work.

I am actually in a similar position! The difference is that I have worked at a Subway for 1 year and 2 months and now I am looking for a job at a Veterinarian office. I am a senior in high school and when I went around looking at colleges they told me that to get into Vet school (I assume that is what you want to do. Vet school is almost as competitive as med school) I needed to start getting experience as soon as possible. Here is my advice to you. Get the job at the Veterinarian's office. I love animals and making sandwiches is unbearable and makes me feel abused (lots of mean customers for very little pay) on a day to day basis.(I can almost guarantee you would make more at the Vet's office) It is miserable. I just applied for a job of Veterinary Assistant that would require me to drive 1 hour each way. To me it would be worth it!
As for feeling dumb, I think that everyone feels that way on the first day and for the first week. It goes away as you learn more and more. Don't worry about what other people think! Take all your circumstances into consideration and make the best choice for you and then move on.
I am constantly being told that the decisions I make now will effect the rest of my life. I hope I have helped some!

All of the good answers are already taken! Yes, there are many PhD's who can't tell their a** from a hole in the ground. The reason I try to answer a question is in case I can say anything that might help the person. If I write an answer and when I post it I find some other person has given a better answer than mine, I always feel relieved. Some times I just like to read answers to find out more about a subject that I don't know much about, but you have to be careful with this.

There is nothing wrong with working at Subway while taking college courses. I know it doesn't pay much but it's a job and you are making money to make ends meet. Don't worry about what other people think. You are young, why would they laugh at you - a person taking college classes and doing what they can. You can also use it as a stepping stone, if you impress others with your good service, you might make some friends who can help you down the road.

If I were you I wouldn't feel "dumb". Know that the Subway job is temporary and go about your business. Be confident! That's the sexiest thing about any one, regardless of what they look like or do for a living. You also get to enjoy the eye candy across the street. Enjoy the moment ;-)

Hey, we all feel insecure when we start a new job, a new school or move to a new neighborhood.
I suspect you think too much.
And you think too much about what others "think" about you.
Remember.....
What you think about me is none of my business.
And the same goes with those 'hotties' who work out at Bally's.
If anything they would think highly of you because you work an honest job for honest money.
And if so, what if they come into Subway?
Everyone goes to Subway.
They also have to work to buy lunch/dinner at Subway.
Most people work.
Do you think people are immature, who work at the stores where you purchase items,
Do you even think about them?
Work where you want to work and where you feel comfortable.
When you go to work....forget about what others think about you.
Think about how you can contribute to the world, by smiling at the customers, being friendly doing the BEST job you can do for that particular day.
Think about how you can be the best employee you can be.
And forget about what others think about you.
It is none of your business.

Good luck!

Its perfectly OK to take a humbling job, especially so early into life. Soon enough you will be a young professional and your sandwich making days will be over. If the "cuties" care that much where you work they are too insecure for you to worry about. Its not like you are going to spend your career as a sandwich artist there.

its a job -- i always thought subway would be good -- the mangers never seem to be around and the kids that work there always seem to have fun and make sandwiches. i don't thnk anyone would look down on someone for working there -- if they did they aren't worth your time anyway.

at the same time i can see your dads point -- its always better to work your way up and if vet office expericence is in your field it might be better for you all the way around.
