A globe is best but for 2-D the Winkel Tripel projection has the fewest compromises and distortions. It looks similar to the Robinson but is much more mathematically based. An interrupted sinusoidal projection is also fairly good.

Of the three you mentioned Robinson is the best, but it has some serious distortions at the poles, but not as much as the Mercator projection. Polar projections have distortions at the equator.

Fuller s Dymaxion Map and the "Butterfly" world map have very little distortion.

Only a globe represents them exactly. All projections suffer from distortion.
