Why does a closed, empty, 2-L, plastic soft-drink bottle cave in when placed in a freezer?

The air pressure in the bottle decreases as the air inside it cools. PV=NRT

I can't answer this question, but I've noticed something similar - while a water bottle that is filled will eventually explode when frozen, if it's chilled to a certain point just below freezing, it too will seem to "suck in". Anyone know why?!
