i personally am a black girl...and i am PROUD but this does not mean i am taking sides because i am NOT....i just recently heard of this...and to be honest....i mean people....put yourselves in these peoples' shoes....this is RIDICULOUS....Louisiana has been a segregated state for YEARS..... i just pray and hope that this incident would change them....
22 years??...thats like taking their lives away from them...they cant do things they would have loved to do...i mean apparently the boy was smart and a good boy in school.....well, guess what...people sometimes have outbursts.....im sure their feeling were hurt and they felt degraded cause of those nooses....I WOULD HAVE.....thats PURE racism and u guys KNOW IT!!...
BUT...that does not give anybody the right to hit another person... even though as black people we've had to fight for years.... they shouldnt have hit that kid. but that kid brought it on himself. however, if u ask me...its the government of that state that are influencing these kids....if they made them realise that racism (no matter what side it is)....IS wrong then maybe this wouldnt have happened. maybe those white kids wouldnt have put those nooses on the trees. you never know.....only God can tell.
so personally, i think ALL these kids (even the whites) should have gotten punished ACCORDING TO THEIR CRIME....they mentally, physically, and verbally abused each other....so they needed to have faced the consequences. the white kids shouldve been given WAY more than 3 days....even as far as being expelled.....the white boy that got "jumpes" shouldve been suspended 2...and the black kids...it doesnt even matter if the go 2 jail...but the MAXIMUM they should give them was like 6 months or something....and they should be charged just for assaulting...thats it...cause they DID assault the kid and THATS all they did....
if the kid was in a coma and was brutally beaten to the point of death (and not IF HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL HOURS LATER!!)....THEN fair enough they could be charged to even 3-5 YRS (AS KIDS...NOT ADULTS).....NOT 22 YEARS...so this is HORRIBLY ridiculous and i dont care....IT IS RACISM!!!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070922/ap_on_re_us/a_place_called_jena;_ylt=Aj3MeV_lNz_yDNYScl4exrhH2ocA Sorry, heres the yahoo story proclaiming it all a big hoax. The tree according to a black teacher was never the white tree, the day the nooses were hung black and white kids were playing together on them poking heads through swinging and having fun together. The incident actually happened a year before these other incidents. The white kid getting beat up was not involved with that noose incident. and basically the only part of the story that is real is that two fights over a weekend caused tensions to boil over into the school where 6 black kids beat up one white kid and continued to kick him after he was knocked out. Also had Al Sharpton stayed out of it the kids would have probably had their sentenced reduced anyway, the prosecutor always starts with a high sentence and reduces it down its fact. Also almost all sentences are reduced by 3/4th so basically that 30 year sentence looks a lot like 5 years, and on good behavior and timed served probably would have been let out on probation just like the white kid.

I am saddened that this has divided our country in a time that we have been under serious attack since September 11. I am also saddened that so many individuals believe that if the roles were reversed (6 White on 1 Black) that the whole country would be up in arms. Well here is a story where that very thing happened. A Black young woman tortured and held captive for a week or more by 6 people, all White including the MOTHERS of two of the captors involved: beaten, sexually abused, stabbed and forced to eat rat and dog feces while repeatedly being called racial slurs. http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/5524...

I don't see America up in arms about this. And she didn't even do anything to anyone.

I personally feel that if one gets punished, they all should. If one gets off, they all should- including the boy who got beat up!!! He played an important role in this. How can one be charged with something and not the others? That just doesn't make any sense. I think this is going way to far. The boy who got beat up did deserve an a** kickin, but to this extent, probably not. When did jumping someone become against the law. I have never in my life heard of someone going to court about a fight that happened in SCHOOL- meaning they're juveniles! This is crazy. There's no way this should have went this far. The way I look at is- the dude done something stupid, got his a** tuned up for it, and the kids who did it should be suspended as should he for hanging the nooses.

6 kids ganged up on 1 kid and almost killed the guy. Left him unconcisous to die.
Everyone feels sorry for the criminals. What about the victim.
I haven't heard that the kid was the one that put the nuse on the tree before. I don't think the 2 incidents are related. Jesse and Sharpton are just trying to make this incident into a race issue.
I think the kids didn't like the white kid for some other reason and decided to kill him. I guess they figured they wouldn't be punished, because they are black.
From what I've heard, the black kids have a criminal record. Would like to find out what else they are guilty of doing.

Jena 6 is a situation that we AS BLACK PEOPLE have been dealing with for years. It shouldn't be a shocking situation to any person who have lived in this white man's land for any amount of time...but what is shocking to me is that days after the Jena 6 rally at one of our own black colleges Delaware State University a student shot 2 other student over what was probably Bull $#!@. We are doing their dirty work for them. Black People do you think that it is a coincidence that the enemy of the Black man is the Black Man. NO this is a 100 year plan that was planted on the plantation and has come full circle now. TO MY PEOPLE UNITED WE ARE THE STRONGEST ENTITY KNOWN TO MAN.

I was born and raised in LaSalle parish, and sad to say this kind of racism has been accepted for way to long. Those nooses that everyone is talking about, well the one in the tree was not the first one, a group of white kids had been hanging them around the area for some time before the kid got beat up. It has taken something like this to open peoples eyes to how this small town has been ran for as long as i can remember. The white kids in my opinion committed a hate crime when they hung those nooses up. But nothing was done about it. The Jena 6 had enough and beat the kid up because he was involved. I do not feel that the right people are in trouble. The group that was responsible for all of the nooses should be in trouble, and the Jena 6 should be in trouble for fighting. But not attempted murder, they had enough and did the only thing they knew how which was to fight back. Maybe with the attention that this is getting the good ole boys of LaSalle parish will realize that it is not 1960 but 2007 and racism is not and should not be tolerated.

Yes I have a comment about the Jena 6. They should all be hung by those nooses.
No really, what is this country coming to? Six kids beat up on one kid and the black community wants them freed? Why? Because some other stupid white kids hung some rope from a tree and weren't prosecuted? Yes it was a stupid thing to do, but what law did they break? Can anybody tell me one law that the white kids broke?
I can tell you that those black kids certainly broke a number of laws and should be prosecuted as adults and sent away for a long time.

i believe that both the white kids and the blacks kids should be punished but not that harsh. i was reading and one white fought a black kid and hit him with a beer bottle but he didn't get in trouble for it. and the white kid that put the nooses on the tree. some people are saying he did nothing wrong but he did im mean did people forget that my people was hung by trees, or they just don't want to think about it. the white kid that was beat up start Saying racial slurs and the six black boys beat him up. im black and i say both was wrong but attempted murder are you crazy the white kid was out of the hospital hours later. both the with kids and the black kids should be in juvenile the white kid did a hate crime and the blacks kids was fighting on school property. and to really help that might stop this is the white kid and the black kids should do some community service to talk about stopping violence with the youth and talk about racism. now wouldn't that be better. we still have to remember these are kids

Yeah I have a comment about it. I was watching the TV news about the protests and marches in Jena on 9-20-07, and wondered where all these people found time to attend this farce. Do they not have Jobs?
