Why is the Canadian dollar now at least at par with the American dollar, while forcast to be stronger yet in the foreseeable future? Do Canadians owe Bush a big hug for being such an inept President?

I used to work a phone job late 90's early 2000's with sales from all over the world. The Canadians always used to laugh at their Canadian dollar. "Oh what is the exchange rate with the US dollar, like a zillion to one?!" they would proclaim. Look who's laughing now!

This idea used to make me nervous as well. But after careful thought and analysis I think its good in some ways.
For example a company from Europe or Canada might want to build a tennis shoe factory. With a weak dollar, labor is cheaper in the USA and labor is the most expensive ingredient in most things. The downside is more menial tasks but for the American Idol generation I dont think they aspire to much more.

I'd say it is due to a globalization of the US economy. The dollar has lost against the Euro as well.

Don't you know anything about economics???

Most countries currency drops some when they are at war.

It has been low before and always recovers.

Actually I think The President and company are dumb Like a fox. We have sent half a trillion dollars to China for widgets and wot nots over the last ten years. So all those green backs they are holding have just been devalued. It's a great move by the US.

China has kept their Yuan artificially low for years...two can play at that game. It's a world market now baby.

With the lower dollar the whole world will want to buy here....think about it. Chevy, Ford, GE, IBM...we're on sale!

Brilliant!

it's because of economists with computers and calculators. They make the economy move fast. If they were still using slide rules, this sort of thing wouldn't happen
