Because it means when one dies, if the ones living keep them in there hearts then there not really gone, you keep there spirite alive with your memories of there good deads, there loving ways. one is only dead physically but not spirtally.

I keep my fathers spirit alive by always talking about him, and sometimes i find myself even actiing like him, and i was told by someone as long as i do this then hes never dead, and by doing this i feel hes always with me, and it helps me cope with him physically gone

it basically, to me, means that they believe they will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved them that they left behind. and maybe they wanted it on their tombstone because they were philanthropic.

It means that the people who love you will remember you after your death, thus keeping you alive in their memories.
