Lycaon was supposedly the name of the first werewolf. In the Underworld movies they referred to werewolves as Lycaon.

In the original Anglo Saxon from which the modern spelling is derived, Werewolf is spelled Wer (man) Wulf (Wolf.) In the Norman area of France there were the Loup-garou. There was even a conclave of theologians convoked in the 15th century by Emperor Sigismund that decided that the Werwulf was a reality. In one of the more interesting legends, Saint Patrick is said to have converted, Vereticus, King of Wales, into a wolf.

Lycans is the only one i can think of.
Here are some interesting thoughts though....
Do you know that it order to become a werewolf you need to don a wolf belt given to you by the devil?
Also the people who become werewolves are generally evil in nature seeking perversion and lust.
Good luck with your book or paper.

Looks like you have your various werewolf names.

Bizarre story idea: I have a friend that got admitted to M.I.T. As part of her application package she sent in an earnest essay which basically was about our greatest mathematicians having suffered from lycanthropy. After reading it, I wondered.

Sure. Werewolf, wolf-man and loup garou; broader terms include: lycanthrope, shape shifter, skin walker and nagual.

There are other terms which I can't recall just now.

Good luck with your story.
