I have a sprained ankle and I hated crutches so I stopped using them and now I'm playing around like usual and I'm even playing volleyball.

You could make the injury worse and have to have your ankle in a cast, which is no fun, due the fact that you can't get it wet.

here are some tips that can help you on trying to recovery from the sprain and not to make it worse. you don't like crutches. so keep the area wraped up in an ace bandage or an ankle brace which ever one is comptable for you. elevate your ankle when you feel or notice any type of swellin.keep you ankle elvated at night. use some bath gel or something to soak you ankle in to losen up the tight muscles. check with dr. for update on the progress to see if it is getting better or worse.

I have a sprained ankle many a time. And yes, I hate the crutches. Once I decided to wear heels and walk without crutches for an entire day. I felt fine that day, that night, and then I woke up the next morning and my ankle was the size of a cantelope.

The point - sprains are very hard to heal - even harder to heal than a break - so you have to rest it for along time if you ever want it to heal properly.

It all depends on the severity of the sprain. When I was in high school one of my teammates and I both sprained our ankles in the same game. I got up and tried to run on mine, so they didn't make me go to the doctor and just taped me for practice the rest of the season. The other guy went to the doctor and was put on crutches which he rarely used. I believe his ankle is fine now, and mine is mostly fine. If it was a bad sprain, you need to use the crutches, otherwise just take it easy and don't do anything stupid like trying to wear heels. If you want to be safe though, you should use the crutches anyway so you don't make things worse.

Has it healed? If it's healed, no swelling, then okay. In general, it stops the ankle from healing quickly to walk on the ankle when it's sprained. But if you're well...go for it.
