A weather vane is a swiveling pointer designed to be mounted at a high point on a building so that it can swivel freely to point into the wind, thus showing the direction of the wind.
It is more correctly called a "wind vane," but the term "weather vane" was used in the 18th and 19th centuries when the wind direction was considered a more certain predictor of the weather than it is now.
Many weather vanes were made in various decorative designs. Try an internet search on "weather vane."

I think you mean the wind vane.Actually it is a device for indicaing or recording the direction from which the wind is blowing.The principle of working of the wind vane lies in the unsymmetrical mounting of an aerofoil system about a vertical axis on which it is free to turn.The end offering the greatest resistance to the motion of air goes to the lee side.
