The first time it happened was 31 years ago. Is there a possibility that US dollar will keep fluctuating and never to regain back its value again.

I happen to love the UK. I'm a major Anglophile, right down to the DVD's I watch (I'm a HUGE Mock The Week fan). They are probably the only ally the US has ever reliably had. Them and Australia and New Zealand. But look at the group, and what do you have? English speakers. Our cultures are virtually the same. Our systems of government are different, and yes, now, economically we are the big brother to Britain, but I in no way ever think of the Brits as our lapdogs. More like our more learned aunts and uncles. We in the US can learn a LOT from the UK. And we try to.

There are a few main reason this has occured. First of all, the Canadian Dollar has risen from $0.60 5 years ago to $1.00, something that was not totally unexpected. Second of all, the American Economy has been weakened by several factors, mainly the Subprime crisis you are experiencing in relation to your mortages. Finally, factors such as an increase in oil prices per barrel, loss of maufacturing jobs, and political issues including the war on Iraq have caused the dollar to weaken.

Hope this all makes sense

Hehehe. There's an -extremely- good chance that's exactly what's going to happen. We've been ignoring basic economic principles and issuing fiat currency for 50+ years, and it's all starting to catch up to us.
As Stripe (in Gremlins II) observed, "We're advising our clients to put all of their discretionary funds into canned food and shotguns."
