what or where is the network key located for a lap top computer??

If you mean the WEP or WPA key, it has to match the wireless router. You will have to enter it when you attampt to connect to an encrypted wireless channel.

I also have an HP laptop.
if you're talking about the thing that helps you go wireless to the internet then the key is on the front left side.:]
