I didn't like it at first, but since it's after a saint as opposed to just being made-up it's growing on me. I like that there's a "normal" nickname he could use if he doesn't like it.

Well, honestly, I don't like it at all. But that is a personal opinion and as it is your son, it is entirely your vchoice. You shcoul go with your gut, not with what other people say. Also, keep in mind that a name is forever (unless you choose to change it legally) so make sure your on will not get made fun of because of his name. It souns french to me, though I have no reason to believe it is besides my own ears.
Also, it is a vey feminine sounding-name, so maybe yo could alter it? Charbeaux? Charlie?
Charbelle is a good girls name!

Saints' names are great, but Charbel Makhlouf is a tad obscure. If the name were attractive, it might be a great choice. But Charbel sounds awfully feminine.
Your intentions are doubtless good, but I think your son would be like Greg Folker in Meet the Parents - forever trying to shed his given name in favor of his more ordinary nickname.

Just go with Charlie. At first I thought Charbel was a girls name. It looks and sounds like one.

Maybe for a middle name but I can see it now, he will be in second grade and known as Charlie and the teacher will call roll . "Shar-belle" would not be a name that any boy would want to have to live with.

It sounds really girly. If you want to avoid embaressment for your child, don't name them Charbel.

When I read the first line I thought maybe it could work if you went with Charbella. Then I realized you meant for a boy. No, definately not, its too girly. Go with Charlie or Charles. Good luck!
