The Oilers shouldn't be any rush to pick a captain this season. While last season they may have suffered a Stanley Cup loss hangover and dropped out the last month of the season. Losing both Ryan Smyth and Jason Smith the Oilers lost a great deal of veteran leadership that can't just be replaced.
Hold off and see if Hemsky, Stoll, Horcoff can rebound from last season and also look at Penner the guy you just dump a lot of money at will take his game to the next level. I would hold of on Stoll chances are he leave 1st day is contract is up.
Souray or Statios would be fine choices this year if you have to anoint a "C". Look at the long run though your captain should be player you looking at keeping for the next 10 years

Maybe you should learn to spell Edmonton first.
MacTavish said after the Leaf game on Tuesday (on LeafsTV) that he will be picking a captain closer to the start of the season.

I nominate Penner..........you thought enough of him to give him a 900% raise............think enough of him to make him Captain. Yzerman and Bourque were captains at 21, Hawerchuk, and Crosby are captains at 20, surely Penner can fit the bill at 25!
