You have to start with internet service, DS or cable. Then you add a wireless router, and you are in business. (Well, there is some setup, but that's al the pieces you need.) Wireless routers sell for $40US and up. If you don't already have internet service, that will run betwwen $30 and $70 a month. Talk to your phne and/or cable companies.

if your laptop has a built-in wireless adapter, you can have internet connection via public wireless hotspots or your own wireless network. if you don't have a built-in wireless adapter, you can buy a PCMCIA card wireless adapter or USB wireless adapter.

i would like to assume that you want an internet connection to your laptop at home. here's something you need to do: first, you need to have an ISP (via DSL or Cable), of course. if you have an existing internet connection. next, you should have a wireless router (eg. Linksys, D-link, Netgear, etc.) to setup a wireless network at home where you can browse the internet, share files, print, etc from you laptop.

assuming that you have already an ISP and wireless router. here are some basic steps to setup your wireless network:
1. connect your dsl or cable cable modem to the source.
2. attach the UTP Cat 5 cable from the internet port from your wireless router to your dsl or cable modem.
a. turn on your dsl or cable modem.
b. power up your wireless router
c. check the LED's if the lights are working, they indicate activity.
d. some ISP's have PPPOE that you need username and password to authenticate in order to establish internet connection. some ISP's have preconfigured settings that you don't have to worry. just refer to the user's manual of your wireless router.
3. switch on your laptop. check if there's wireless network connectivity.
4. you're now ready to browse the internet from your laptop wirelessly.
