Alexander the Great conquered Phoenicia on his way to Egypt. I don't remember the date Sidon fell, but it was a long siege during the 330's BCE.
The story of the siege is rather interesting as it shows some rather advanced technology used by both Greek attackers and Phoenician defenders.

Cultures typically don't die out. They evolve.
Bits and pieces of the old culture can be found in the new culture that replaced it.
Example: the popularity of evergreen trees at Christmas; evergreen trees were a pre-Christian holiday theme from Germany.
