Absolutely...4 months is the recommended age to start rice cereal. Mix it with formula or breast milk to a "soupy" consistency but be ready for more of it to make it down his chin than in his belly the first few times. He'll get it eventually. Watch for any signs of reaction to the newly added foods via rashes. For reflux you can always try the Similac RS or Enfamil AR which has added corn starch to make it thicker. Rice in the bottle can make it extremely difficult to get it out of the nipples. Good luck and congrats on this milestone!

Hiya...I personaly wouldnt have given any of my children cereal in the bottle....that doesnt sound to good to me...My first child started on rice cereal at 4months only because she was a hungry girl and developed a fantastic appitite...If you find your baby is a hungry baby and is ready for solids then why not make 2teaspoons up at a time and trail that amount...then you can gain an idea of just how hungry your wee one is and go from there...I wish you all the best...

You can start feed your chold cereal at 5 months. I wouldn't put any cereal in the bottle. I don't think its a good idea. Your child can choke by doing that. My doctor told me. You can always mix some formula with the cereal. My son really like it like that.

Give that baby cereal. He is probably hungry (eating a lot). He will still take the bottle even without the cereal in eat. They know the difference between being hungry and thirsty. If you are really concerned, amke sure you use a soft baby spoon and feed that baby his cereal. Good Luck!!!

Everyone I have ever talked to has said not to put cereal in the bottle. My daughter is 4.5 months old and has been eating cereal by spoon for 2 weeks now. She is doing great. All you can do is try the spoon. If he doesn't take it, theres your answer. He will tell you when you try. Good luck and get the camera ready. Its funny.

I waited till six months with all my children.
You should never give any food in the bottle.
Only start food when your baby is able to take a spoon.
The only reason for food in the first year is to prepare the baby for solids. All baby needs in the first year is breast milk or formula.
Why rush into it ?
I am concerned about a doctor who would tell you to put cereal in a bottle.

Congrats on this baby mile stone! Your beautiful child is growing fabulously! Your pediatrician is right about adding the cereal to the bottle, for 2 reasons, it makes it easier for baby to consume as baby still has a strong sucking urge, and for 2 it gives baby something that he is used to and lets him experience something new, but without the punch of trying to spoon feed him. With my experience in babys and cereal, the kid will love his bottle with or without the cereal, BUT if you add the cereal in his bed time bottle, you will notice he sleeps heavier and longer because he isn't waking up hungry. Give it a try and see. Where its new, you can introduce it to him slowly with adding it to maybe 2 of his bottles a day until he can sit up and he off of a spoon.

You can mix the cereal in a bowl with some formula and feed it that way. Just make sure it's not to thick or too thin. There should be mixing directions on the box.

You can try it. Four months if on the early side of when you can begin solid food. Most doctors recommend waiting until six months. They are getting all the nutrients they currently need from their formula/breastmilk. If you are starting...it should be more milk/formula than cereal. It may take him a while to get used to the new texture. Good luck and have fun.

I don't have a baby, but I was at the doctors office today and they had a chart and it said to start introducing cereal at 6 months. That's what most of my friends have done.
