It is equivalent to walking on eggshells. I agree with you on being who and what you are. But even so, most people just want to be accepted, and to be accepted you have to be just like everyone else. How boring can you get?

You're right, it is restrictive. Time was, when the majority of the people ruled. But not anymore. The minority (in numbers) now tries to dictate what the majority will think and say. One tool for this is political correctness - which instills in us we have to be careful with peoples sensitivities. It is often these small groups of people with strange and odd agendas and lifestyles that are the ones that want to seemingly take away your right to be who you are. If you are not allowed to voice your opinion, or are suppressed with your expression through political correctness, then that leaves a vacuum for some otherwise unacceptable lifestyles to surface in society without ridicule. Just keep your own identity, your character (even though that's politically taboo), know right from wrong, and I'll do the same.

so much for individuality, i get sick of all that crap. You wanna hear the ultimate in ridiculous. Because of political correctness all the books for toddlers have been rewritten, the 3 little pigs- no longer are we aloud to say "not by the hair on your chinny, chin, chin. Oh no, this is an insult to people with facial hair problems, I still don't know what the Gingerbread man did wrong but it's now the Pancake man, for the sake of political correctness shouldn't it be Pancake "person", Ba ba black sheep, is not allowed to be taught in schools anymore as this is an insult to blacks, why don't we just outlaw the colour black. Good god, i trashed the whole set, went to a secondhand store and bought the old ones for 10 cent a piece, now i enjoy reading them to kids again. The new expensive set weren't worth giving to a secondhand store. I think political correctness is just something shoved on us to keep our minds busy, so we don't pay attention to the important things we might speak out about. Secondly "Political Correctness" so when has it not been politically correct to lie, steal, cheat, abuse power, etc. They love to tell you how individual you are while they try heard us like sheep. Here's another surprise, do you know the government spent a million dollars to discover that rich people are in much better health, than poor people, and for $20 I could have told them the same thing and given them the factual answers at no extra charge. God, what next, be an individual, lots of us refuse to succumb to this stupidity.

Political correctness is the larval stage of full blown communism. What I would like to know is how the notion that anyone has the right to not be offended ever got started. If something offends you, tell the offender or turn away or just friggin' learn to deal with life for a change.

The bitter truth about politics is that, it is a very true image of the society at large.
When the levels of the society evolves better, the politicians would reflect a similar enhanced image, and those not capable, would get thrown out automatically, even if there is dictatorship, leave alone this democracy!

This is usually advocated by someone who is in the majority and not in the minority. When we are in a position of privilege it is easy to make such a case.
How about we make a distinction to what is public and what is private. You can say what you choose in private including any racisist, sexist, homophobic, etc. beliefs. However, in public we agree that there is a minimum standard of socialization and that we all play by the same rules.
I won't tell you the names that you are called and how you are discriminated against for being white. I would be going against your perspective if I did that. I could tell you the companies that will discriminate against you for being white, but I won't. After all, they can do what they wants. It's only a few words and actions.
I won't tell you how seek justice if you are denied housing or a mortgage or an education because you are white. After all, they are just being who they are when they discriminate against.
Further, as a male, you face discrimination. But that is okay, because people are just being themselves. I won't tell you how this will affect you as a parent and your enjoyment of life. After all, it's just someone opinion.
Further, as a North American, I won't tell you about the Americans who travel with Canada pins to avoid discrimination and hatred. It's only a few hateful words after all.
Or, maybe you just didn't know that being PC affects you too.

I many times observe at present people who whinge approximately too plenty laptop'ness additionally whinge how they might desire to exhibit screen what they are asserting or they're accused of being sexist, racist, or homophobic...nicely gee, perhaps this is with the help of the fact they're being sexist, racist or homophobic, lol. i'm going to take too plenty laptop'ness every time over having to hearken to sexist, racist and homophobic rot at paintings. i'm happy people think of in the past they communicate at paintings--at abode they are in a position to be a jerk to their heart's content textile.

I don't know why people talk about it. 'Politically correct' is a bunch of crap and is usually worse than talking normally. Nobody has to try to be politically correct unless they are basically big bigots.
