Yeah, the wandering black hole.
You put something down in the same place as always (car keys, glasses, note pad, etc.) and then when you want them, they are not there. So you search all over, ending up back where you started, and there they lie.

Every one has misplaced something and couldn`t find it.Or was sure they put something some where and then when they go back its not there.I remember an incident when I was Captain of Security working the night shift and had other officers under me.I went into my purse and looked for an item I knew was in there but couldn`t find it.I had an officer sitting beside me and he watched as I dumped my purse out on the desk and went through everything before putting every thing back in,this was about the third time I`d went into my purse looking and I just got aggravated and dumped everything. The item just wasn`t there so I put my purse up and went about my regular routine.Later that night, should say early morning, several hours had passed and I needed something else,I don`t remember now what, could have been a writing pen ,any way I opened my purse and right on top was the item I had looked for earlier. The guard who had been sitting at his post at the time was now covering the inside of building and had stopped by my desk. His face was priceless,As I`m sure was mine.

Other than socks in the dryer? Yes. I have, from time to time, had things mysteriously disappear.
The last time I flew, I left most of my keys, etc., home, to avoid losing (and to make it easier to get through the airport!). One particular key I put where it could not get lost, so I could readily find it when I came back.
Well, when I came back, it wasn't there!
Also, the last time we moved, several items that were carefully packed did not make the transition, even though the items they were packed with did.

I had a pretty bizarre incident like that happen to me several years ago.
One day I was sitting on our couch reading a book when I had to get up for something in another room. I left the book on the arm of the couch, open to save my place. Minutes later I came back, only to find my book was gone. I checked under the couch, checked under all the couch cushions and even flipped the couch over to make sure I hadn't accidentally knocked it off and kicked it underneath. But nothing. I retraced all my footsteps just to make sure I hadn't taken the book with me, but still nothing. Thinking one of my younger siblings had taken it to be funny, I went after each of them and asked them to kindly return my book. None of them had it and they each said they hadn't seen it. I gave up on my search.
I think it was exactly two weeks later when I walked into the living room and lo and behold! there was my book. It was on the arm of the couch, open to the same page I had left off at, as though I had just walked away from it. No one in my family could have put it there because I was the only person in the house at the time.
All of my family had things that came up missing from time to time while we lived in that house. Some items would mysteriously disappear, only to reappear again; other items were never seen again. So you're not alone in having something come up missing and thinking you're losing your mind!

I know exactly what you mean! I swear something weird goes on in my house, because items will come up missing, and I will have my whole family look for the item, but to no avail. A few days later the item will show up in it's original spot. Weird, huh?

Yes i have but then i always find them were i really put them.
remember you were getting ready for vacation so your thoughts were probably elsewhere when you misplaced your jewelry. You have merely created false memories to explain your loss of your things. Don't worry they will turn up eventually and you will probably say oh yeah now i remember!!
Good luck God bless.

next time it happens, courteously and out loud, ask for the object back. you will normally get it back particularly immediately. Hanah has a good suggestion - a jar of beans or rice with a good tight lid works properly too- supposedly they are compelled through their nature to quit and count quantity them. Tight lid to maintain it from being knocked over.

Yes, that happened to me once with a ring. I set it down, went to a concert, came back and it was gone!
