I kiss my baby girl all over her face and on her lips.

The same friend who told me that I change diapers too often

told me that I shouldn't kiss her on the face because I have too many 'microbes' and I will make the baby sick. Her son is 3 1/2 months and she says she has not kissed him on his face (just forehead, fingers, hands).

Isn't she missing out on a special point in her babies life? or am I giving 'microbes' to my girl?

Thanks all. After a 40 minute phone call with this girl I started getting really irritated with her. It seems since my daughter is only 4 weeks and her son is 3 1/2 months that she is the expert!
Kissing Hannah (my girl) is one of the best parts of the day!

tell your friend to get a grip - i kiss my baby all over too, and change her nappy sometimes every hour.

you do what you feel is right babies love being cuddled and kissed, just wait till she kisses you back with a big wet sloppy open mouth kiss, its divine.

your friend will leave a nappy full of bacteria on her babys bum - which will cause nappy rash real bad - but is worried about germs on the face. she is crazy.

Well, I think microbes are probably a big issue for people with OCD, but I have kissed all of my children all over their faces since they were handed to me at the hospital when they were born, and I have 5 very healthy children. I doubt it's really an issue that needs to be worried about. I say, kiss that baby and worry more about how you're going to get dinner finished at a reasonable hour when all you want to do is cuddle that little bundle! I agree that she is missing out on something special with her baby. Good luck! :)

OHh my goodness...kiss your daughter!!! I think it is good for her!! It shows her that you love and care for her. My daughter who is now 2.5, I smothered her in kisses when she was a newborn. She was not sick a day until she was a year old. Everyday microbes are not the enemy. I know this may sound strange. A certain amount of the everyday germs make a person healthier.

One thing I would watch out for, is if you have a cold or are sick with something then I would not kiss her on the lips.

Other then that, I would kiss kiss kiss kiss your daughter.

Wow, sounds like your friend has some issues with germs. I've kissed my son since the day he was born and he's never been sick. He's 20 months old. Babies need a certain amount of germs anyway so they're immune system gets built up. I say ignore your friend and kiss away! I don't see how anyonw could resist kissing their baby!

I had a baby girl that was 8 weeks early and they are even more susceptible to illness and I kiss her all over her face and I have never made her sick. Showing your baby affection is in no way wrong!! The only time you might want to take it easy with the kisses is if you have a cold sore.

I disagree will those answers. I am a grandmother and when my daughter was born my father use to tell me to stop kissing all over the baby. Both me and my husband would kiss her and I thought he was wrong but know I see why. Babies skin is very sensitive and kissing them and holding is one thing.
I have seen babies brake out from being kiss a lot. You carry germs that a baby is not use to and it could cause them to get sick. I just tell you from some one who has been there. My daughter use to crawl around the floor and I picked up a germ that made me ill. I got infections in my mouth and I caused her to get high fevers. I kept my house clean but you never know what germs are still around. She got better but I had to go have dental treatments on my gums for about a year. what I caught the dentist said was something he saw during WWII.
I say hug your baby but don't kiss her on the lips. Your child
does need love and contact but with caution

I always kissed my kids all over their face and lips too! But...when my baby girl was only a month old, she got RSV and the doctor told me to stop kissing her lips. A lot of adults carry and pass virus' (spec. cold and flu) even when we don't get sick. Babies immune systems aren't strong enough yet and a simple cold can become quite serious. However, the doctor never said I had to stop kissing her cheeks or forehead.

Oh for goodness sakes! Kiss that baby girl and love doing it. That is your baby. She is a part of you. She JUST recently came OUT of you. How rediculous is your friend being! She really don't know what she is missing out on! You should talk to your friend about keeping her expert advice to herself and allowing you to make decisions for your own little one. It sounds like your own parenting ability is better than hers anyways.

Her child is missing out the most.

Some microbes are good, they will build up her immune system. You don't live in America anymore -- so don't listen to these "ultra-clean" types --being TOO "clean" like this is actually detrimental.

edit: ...after reading more....maybe she doesn't want to kiss her stinky baby ROTFL

Don't listen to your friend, she is a germophobe and the more you kiss your baby, the more loved she is! And it is a proven fact that the more exposed to germs your kids are, the more immune to them they will be. So all those freak parents that cover their kids in hand sanitizer are actually the reason they get sick. Kids are supposed to be germ magnets, thats how they become immune to them. Kiss you baby as much as you like!
