What about your 2,3,4,5 month old?
I have a friend who thought I was nuts to use up to 10 diapers in a day (usually 6-10). She said disposable diapers are each good for 12 hours unless it is a poo and then you should change it!
She goes through one package of diapers a MONTH! while I go through one package a week. My baby is 4 weeks, hers is 3 1/2 months. She has never used more than 3 diapers in a day, she usually only uses 2!
Am I wrong or is she a complete nutter?

I think your friend sounds like she is nuts. I changed my daughters diapers when she got wet. Being in a wet diaper for a baby is bad. Only being changed twice a day can cause very bad diaper rash. Plus, it does not sound very hygienic to be sitting in pee all day.

There were days when I felt like I was changing my daughter every 30 seconds.

Now my daughter is two and half (yes still in diapers, we are working on that) But, I still change her way more then 3 times a day. I change her about every 3-4 hours. Even if she has no poo in her diaper.

Your friend sounds like she does not really know what she is doing. I posted on the topic of kissing as well. To me it is a bit crazy that she is scared of kissing her daughter on the lips because of microbes. But she isn't worried about her poor daughter being in her own urine all day. To be I think the urine sounds much worse then kisses.

Holy CRAP 20-24 diapers a day?! Even for a newborn that is an extreme ammount! I never changed my son's diaper more than 10-12 times when he was a newborn.... He is now nearly 14 months old and gets a diaper change maybe 4-6times per day! I think those parents are just paranoid or something... there is seriously no reason to change a baby's diaper literally every hour on the clock.

Unfortunately there are some bad parents out there. This could probably even be considered neglect or abuse. I'm crazy about changing my son's diaper. Every time it's a little wet I change it (not if it's a tiny bit wet). Diapers are expensive, but I don't want him sitting in pee. I changed him every 1-2 hrs as a newborn. Now he's 20 months and we still go through a good deal of diapers each day.

No, you're fine. It's awesome that you change your baby's diaper when it needs changing, instead of doing what she's doing and letting her poor baby sit in aa wet diaper. I change my 2 1/2 months old's diaper maybe 4-6 times a day, but keep in mind that the older they get the less wet or poopy diapers they will have!

Leaving a baby for 12 hrs in a wet diaper is equal to being in a wet underwear ourselves. The wetness and the acid in the urine will cause diaper rash and generally be uncomfortable. You are going in the right direction with the diaper changing and please do not take any advice from your lazy and miserly friend who does sound like a complete nutter to me.

She is nutts! The average diaper change is 10 times a day, depending on how many bowel movements and wet diapers your child has. Not changing a wet or soiled diaper can and will cause a really bad diaper rash! Is it that your friend cant buy diapers or just doesnt want to spend her money on them? Please dont listen to her and make sure you change your babys diapers as much as needed!

you should change the diaper about 8 times a day, on average. she is being lazy and introducing her baby to diaper rash.
