I prefer salt water drift wood that I find on the beach, Soak it good in fresh water for several days prior to installing it in your tank. Change the water several times a day to leach the salt out of it.

With no real disrespect I'm going with Whisper. DRIFT by definition doesn't equate to soaking some lumber in a tank of salt water.

I want so much to assume you might appreciate The NATURAL-NESS of driftwood and how it comes to be. You can't strictly duplicate the swirling, smoothing, twisting; silvering; in the way it washes out of any Ocean.

I'm really curious as to where you ever got the notion of FAUX driftwood, and to what end?

AH OK I GET IT,,,maybe??? Seems not a good idea in any case. Again and with no real offense meant this question is an example of Yahoo's suggestion to add Details/Specifics. to questions for THE BEST ANSWERS.

drift wood is lightweight and not waterlogged..thus it gets its name because it will drift or float. what you want is wood that is waterlogged already or heavier than water so it will stay at the bottom.
