Hi Yowsie.

I love Bach. I also love Chopin & Debussy. I also love Tchaikowski; but his music makes me want to get up & dance (since I used to be a ballerina).

I DO love Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Are you aware of the controversey surrounding that music — it is said that Bach did not compose it. I don't believe it, though.

I also love his Prelude and Fugue in C major — and of course his most famous work, the Brandenburg Concertos.

Did you know Bach went blind when he grew old? What is it with these composers? Beethoven went deaf, Bach went blind, Mozart went nuts!!!

Bach was very prolific, in many ways. He has written so many songs that no one knows how many. He also had a total of 20 children; went did he have time to compose??
----------

I love Chopin very much; I have danced to many of his pieces. I enjoy his Prelude in A minor, Opus 28, No. 2. I especially love the études and nocturnes. Chopin said:

"One needs only to study a certain positioning of the hand in relation to the keys to obtain with ease the most beautiful sounds, to know how to play long notes and short notes and to attain certain unlimited dexterity... A well formed technique, it seems to me, is one that can control and vary a beautiful sound quality."

His pieces always reminded me of artwork, very visual.
----------

I also love Debussy. He said, "the primary aim of French music is to give pleasure."

My favorite pieces are:

"Jeux de vagues," from La Mer
Prelude à l'après-midi d'un faune (Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun)
Nocturnes
La Mer
----------

There are so many more pieces that I cannot even remember anymore without asking my husband to get my CD's to check.

Anyway, the church near my home has a Bach Festival every Sunday before evening vespers. It is very pleasant.

It's nice to know there are other Bach fans out there.

Peace.

My younger brother knows it by heart.

When he was in college, he heard about a tour of the city's churches, sponsored by the college's young architect club, and decided that would be a cheap way to entertain himself. At one of the stops, the church's representative showed off the pipe organ, which was the most magnificent in a fairly big radius. Anyone here play the organ, want to try it out?

He was the only one who raised his hand.

He slid onto the organ bench, fired her up, then did a bit from T&F. He says the lower registers were really great, and he put shivers down his *own* back. After those most famous phrases, he stopped, and gave out with a muhhahahaha laugh.

One of the student architects, a girl, leaned over and told a friend, "What's his name? I'm gonna marry him!" And she did. Their two kids are in college now.

So that's HIS favorite organ music. It comes second for me; I love Jean Sibelius's Finlandia more. Be still my soul....
