As iPod only support MP4 video and if your video is not, you need to convert it to MP4. Many such convert software on http://www.yahoo.com you can search.
I always free download videos from youtube and limwire then use Daniusoft DVD to iPod Suite to convert ot which a friend told me. It could help you convert any DVD/ video to iPod video with only three steps. Also it let you set the movie effects, crop/ trim video.
You can free download it here to have a try:

Here I found a good guide for put videos to iPod:

the videos must be in the right format, which is .mp4
those downloaded from itunes or google video come in that format, but otherwise you need to find a file converter, such as DVDfab. Look for the trial version, download it, then get a program called date cracker to extend the trial period for as long as you want.
Date cracker is free, available for download here:
http://www.e-tech.ca/003-dc2000.asp
DVDfab is available for download here:
http://www.dvdfab.com/download.htm
-both are virus free, as i have used them myself many times.
-remember to always open dvdfab through date cracker, or else it may stop working.
