East coast - It is not in Virginia nor in Maryland. It is in the District of Columbia.

Washington D.C. is located on the east coast, just north of the Potomac river and a short distance west of the Chesapeake Bay. It appears to be in Maryland, but is actually a separate entity. Maryland ceded that land for the creation of a capital city in 1790.

for the first one it would be the capital of washington which is Olympia, and the second one would be in new england which is middle-north east side of the us. pretty near the coast of the us. good luck
