Well there's a 21 year old guy who is always nasty to my 23 year old friend. She is very friendly and gets on well with most of the people in her class. She talks to this guy just the way she does with other students but everytime she talks to this one guy he ends being nasty to her and ends up shouting at her to get lost and stop chatting to him, even infront of other students. When she asks him why he said that he says because he hates her, doesn't like talking to her and that they don't get on. However after a few weeks he apologises for being rude, so they talk for a while and then it repeats itself. It's happened 3 times now, and my friend has forgiven him each time, but this time she is really upset and doesn't understand why he is so nasty to her when he doesn't even know her that well.

So what? Not to make little of your guys emotions but you both have an unhealthy attactment to his opionins. STOP THAT! Who cares why one guys rude for no reason, you caring gives him power, if she would of just ignored him, POP no more power over you guys, but I'll let you know what it MIGHT be. He could actually have a deep fondness, a love for her, but becaue of something she represents to him in a "social struture sense" (in other words she's preppy and easily bothered good fun for a jerk). Immature people do this as a way to deny their affections. Another possiblity is simply he just doesn't like her getting in his face, but with the fact he rebounds, it seems like manuplation to get her were he wants her. So both of you show some emotional self-control, ignore the fool or put him in his place with good old honest. Such as

Why have you changed your attitude again, did you think that if you were nice I would date you or something so descided that wouldn't work and went back to this?

Do you really think your impression people by treating me like !!!!, I mean really whats that suppose to accomplish? Make me cry? Wow what a big man! Make a lady cry.

Just realize his behavior should be ignored are you should call him out, its actually the socially responsible thing to do. Not just deal with it, its not fair for you, the class, and actually him.... thats why I put you the choice because to call him on it, puts you in woman territory, not young lady trying to understand the world, but WOMAN fighting for what you believe in, think about that..... don't worry I've failed and ignored people too I won't look down on you, but I try to inspire ;-)

The guys must ahve some kind of mental problem. Your friend should just leave him alone. You can't help or befriend someone that don't want it.
