Well, I don't know how much help this will be, but when I quit, I just decided I would quit, and never smoked again. My mom did the same thing, and she had been smoking for over 20 years.

Someone I know quit. He is in his late sixties. Had been smoking since he was a teen. A very heavy smoker. He would just finish one and grab another. Couldn't be more than 20 minutes without smoking. A few months ago do to health problems. The doctor told him he had to stop. He didn't. They gave him some medicine. He just recently finished the treatment. He stopped smoking. Now his appetite has increased. He eats a lot. Go to see a doctor and ask what is available. To stop the craving for smoking. Like I said. This guy was a heavy smoker. And the meds he was given helped him stop. I don't know the name of the medication. This is in the USA

Hi Mick...I stopped smoking 23 years ago, overnight. I graduated from ready rolled to doing my own.Straight away
I was able to reduce the number I smoked each day;not that I smoked that many anyway. One night I had enough baccy' to
roll one f a g about as thick as a matchstick.I smoked it,and next morning I went to work without my baccy' tin, papers or matches. It was difficult for the first two or three weeks,as I was surrounded by smokers at work, but I stuck at it. The main thing is, you have got to want to stop;that is half the battle. The difference after a few months is amazing, you can taste your food better, you will be able to breathe better. But you have got to stick at it.I was lucky.I managed to stop without any help at all. Anyway Mick,I really hope you succeed, let us know how you get on.Good luck.
Eric....I have just made an example of you, I quit using just my willpower and that's the truth.

The glib answer is stop putting them in your mouth. Decide whether you want to be controlled by an addiction or whether you want to control your own live. Study up behavior modification and formulate a plan for yourself. I smoked for 25 years and gave up easily, best thing I ever did. Remember that a craving only lasts about a minute then disappears, surely you can survive a minute of discomfort? Oh, remind yourself how disgusting smokers smell, yuck, it is a filthy, filthy habit.

Well my father had been smoking for around 2 - 3 years. He stopped simple because he was beginning to get sick and didnt want to die and leave his children. Perhaps you dont have children or anything to leave behind, however, the people that care about you are the 'things' you leave behind. Don't do it for yourself if you dont want to, do it for the many or few that care about you. It takes a lot of determination, but the only one that can say 'NO MORE' is you and only you. Hope this helps. ( He also stopped drinking from night to day in one day - weird but he did. Mainly he would put challenges for himself, as a battle against his ego and superego.)

Yeah Mick I've done it. I smoked & chewed too.I'll tell you it's not easy, you need to work yourself up for it. Start by setting a quit date. I used the patch for a bit too. If you don't manage to qut now just consider it practice and set a new date when you're ready to try again. Remember no one would expect you to ride a bull on your first attempt.

I'm currently taking Chantix and its working and I know about ten ppl who have had success with it. You need a prescription for it. It really gets rid of the cravings but can give you an upset stomach. After about two- three months you should be smoke free. Good Luck!

Yep. quit "cold turkey". It's hard. anything worth doing is. The way I was able to do it was to set a reward for myself for the 2 week mark, and most importantly, tell all of your friends you are trying to quit, and tell them they have permission to watch you and keep you accountable. Remember, it's hard. But stick with it and you can get through it. I've done it, my daughter's boyfriend has done it, and I know you can do it!
good luck!
