what is the proper term for this (X^2+8x +16)

is it a trinomial?

& what is it called when i have to do this 3(X^2+8x +16)
i say distribute....right????

You are correct. Basically a trinomial is when you have 3 terms which are not alike. If you would've had just 8x + 16, then that would be a binomial. If you hvae 8x - 2x + 16, that's a binomial since if you combine like terms you get 6x +16.

If you were to multiply the 3 into the terms inside the parenthesis, then yes, you would say you are distributing the 3 into your trinomial.

Yes, you could call it a "trinomial" because it's a polynomial with three terms. Or you could call it a "quadratic" because it has a square term.

And yes, if you were to multiply the 3 through to get 3x^2 + 24x + 48, that would be "distributing" the 3, or using the "distributive rule".
