the causes, some of the harshest conditions under slavery in the West Indies , caused the African slaves to revolt and throw the French out of the Island. the effects, alot can be said, Liberty of course resulting in the first Black republic in 1804 a crippling debt placed on Haiti by the French in exchange for this freedom that contributed to it being mired in poverty, which may have contributed to the extreme polarisation of social classes in the nations, the poor masses and the wealthy elite. as well as a embargo of the Island by other nations wanting to teach Haiti a lesson and inspire fear in other islands who might have the same idea.
