If I was as guilty I would not pay for a Private Investigator either, they might just trace the crime to me. I would buy the best lawyers and media PR people that money could buy !
The McCanns have assured that the legal team are paid for by Branson... the fund no doubt pays Clarence Mitchells wages (?)

thats a good idea, people who put into this fund would also agree with you i am sure. Sadly all the PR they are paying for has more to do with making them look innocent and caring parents than finding their daughter. Poor Maddie.

Like the question, y if one of my children went missing and I had set up a fund and had enough money in it to hire a private investigator then I would, especially if reports are true that the Portuguese police have now given up on finding her and are sure she is dead. But as a parent you were convinced they were still alive I would do everything in my power to prove that.

New running shoes?
Honestly, for a fund with over a million in the bank it seems like all that's appeared is some T-Shirts, posters and wrist bands that a local community drop-in center could organise. And they have the nerve to be selling them to boot.
It really doesn't add up and just adds to the fishy nature of their behaviour.

Does anyone here happen to remember Elizabeth Smart? When she disappeared, her family did the same thing - went on a huge PR trip & stayed on it as much as possible for nearly the whole time she was missing. It was a local, semi-local & national campaign to keep Elizabeth's name & face out there. & it worked.
At some point quite early on the police also investigated & questioned the parents as well. Can't remember if they had hired lawyers or not but in this day with the way the parents are always the first suspects, one needs a team of lawyers to defend you as soon as you are a victim.
As far as further investigation by the Portugal police, news websites were reporting today that the case against the McCanns is collapsing. Hhhhmmm.....

If we are all in agreement that the mc'canns should not use the fund money to pay for legal representation, i hope that clarence whats his name isn't being paid from this either.
This money was put there for Maddies search not for a pr man to try to get them off, assuming they are responsible

No idea and doubt we'll ever know where the money goes.
With regard to posters I was pretty shocked to discover that you have to buy the missing posters from the online shop on their website. I would have thought they'd have given them out for free wouldn't you....

Er....excuse me....Innocent people DO need top lawyers. There have been many miscarriages of justice in this country (UK). Remember the cot death senario and the ones who were freed? Check it all out you I would imagine you can get access to the Maddie Fund to see where the money is going to.

Possibly their freedom... What happened to the question the Portuguese Police wanted to ask the McCanns last week ? Has all that been brushed under the carpet ?
