How do you answer that? They're so different. Is it a question of technical skill? Well, then Zappa. Emotional? Jerry. But their emotions are so different.
Composition wise? Frank?
Uhh, Trey Azagthoth is a joke, dude. Shawn Lane anyone? **** speed. Who cares about speed? It's soulless and pointless when it comes to music. Bill Frisell can't play fast at all, but he SHITS on Lane or Azagthoth.
It's really a preference thing, and what you want in a moment. If you had to choose you would say Frank Zappa based on overall guitar ability, but Jerry's music moves people to tears.
Frank could do what Jerry did before Jerry could do what Frank did. Often a fair way to compare. And neither could do what Hendrix did.
No one could/can.
