I was thinking about that today...I live in New York, in the city, so I see people rushing around all day. And I was wondering, why do people work so hard? Is it because they feel wroking towards a certain possession will make them happy? Are we all just working towards happiness, or what we've been told happiness is? And most of all, does anyone really ever get there?
I don't think so. And that's why i'm wondering where the constant motivation is coming from.

I mean in the long run. Not just for this day or week, for your whole life.

I get what you are saying. I've lived long enough to know that material possessions to not bring happiness or contentment. I have had many things in my life and have lost many more. I now live a very simple life. I work to pay the rent, buy food and a few clothing items. I can deal with that much better than always being under pressure to pay for things that next month I may lose. My children, who are grown and on their own now, are My greatest love in my life.

I'm in the Army so I'm working towards keeping my country free and safe. I want my kids to grow up in a world that is free of terrorism and radical nations set on domination. That's all the motivation I need. Will we ever get there? Only if enough people care enough to join me and those like me. We sure don't do it for the money. I am eligible to retire in 3 months. I plan to do at least another 10 years.

Working towards happiness? No offense, but working to me is TORTURE and only brings stress. Who cares about the money you make? I would TRULY be happy if money grew on trees and I didn't have to work for it. But hey, that's just me.
In my opinion, people work to survive, not to be happy.

Melissa L is right. to be finanically stable. i mean if they didnt rush they would be bumps wouldnt they? and just worry all the time just to eat or pay the bills. and to keep the bill paid so you can stay on your computer.
