One key importance of a modern PR team is the 'rebuttal', as soon as your opponent issues a statement about you, then you instantly rebut the story as untrue. New Labour pefected this technique in the run up and aftermath of the 1997 general election.

But in the McCann case it works like this:
1) The Portugese Police leek a story the the Portugese press, who in turn report it as 'from Police Sources'.
2) Team McCann issues the rebuttal denying vigerously that the report is true.
3) The Portugese Police, covered by the nations secrecy laws, rebut the McCanns saying that they have made no accusation as to what the McCanns are denying.
4) Team McCann look like they are making up the rebuttals !

Have you noticed the 'double-rebuttals' confusing Team McCann ?

But in steps Clarence Mitchell who is nobodies media fool and have blanketed the UK media with unattributted 'they are innocent' stories... but can that stance last ?

PS before somebody answers 'but what about Madeleine' - you dont hire a £70,000 media director to find a missing child, you hire a £70,000 private detective despite Portugese Laws

Anchor Cranker - dont you know how to read News stories and disemminate the actual news. From you first link it was this one statement that the whole story was based and the title made up... 'Prosecutor Luis Bilro Verao has made it clear all lines of inquiry, including kidnap or accident, are still open'

Brilliant and good tactics from the Portuguese Prosecutor.

The McCanns stating clearly they have innocent and rational explanations to Madeleine's DNA in the deep enclosure for the spare wheel of the car, soiled nappies from the twins yes! let's blame the twins once again!

Their panic, unease, incriminating themselves with such stupidity and outrageous statements don't they realise that the Portuguese authorities are watching their every move. Its becoming a laughing stock. They really think the British people support them?????

The McCanns make no mention of their little daughter Madeleine. According to Clarence Mitchell "THATS THE JOB OF THE PORTUGUESE POLICE"!

I was remotely LOL when I first looked at the transformation of Mr faceless Egg into an amazing full detailed scary face......after 8 months, with Jane Tanner, the creator of Mr faceless Egg backing up the transformation. Anything will do, to divert suspicion from the McCanns with the utmost intention:.....to get the money pours back into the fund.

It is now clear that the whole case has been buried. It seems that all "experts" and "famous" people are coming to the aid of the McCanns. Good luck to them. The Portuguese and their police are happy to be rid of them and the problem they caused. Let's not forget that (1) the PJ-GNR does not care to ask them anymore questions but (2) the McCanns remain official suspects for all time

Very interesting, you are very observant. Maybe the Portuguese Police are a lot more cleverer than given credit for... Maybe they are being lulled into a false sense of security in the hope the Police will find out all they need to... Their apparent need for such a defence speaks volumes.. It's like watching some movie where power and money wipe the floor with anyone daring to be a witness but like all good movies the baddies get caught in the end......

I thought nappygate was the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Here we have all these excuses about anything and everything (it's all wholly innocent, you know) and then the PJ say they don't want to question them at the moment.

The McCanns - guilty of spin, must have been spinning themselves.

Hi Steph, been around but am back now :)

I think xx

It's Alice in Wonderland stuff. You have an imaginary defence against an imaginary trial. Why on earth are the McCanns doing this? Are they mad, or just power mad? They have not yet been charged with anything. Is Robert Murat doing this sort of thing? He remains an arguido but is also a British citizen. Who is looking after him? On the assumption of innocent until proved guilty, why is Robert Murat not being given vast sums of money to pay for a first class defence?
What hold have the McCanns got? What goes on?

Great question.

WELSHCAKE: Ever thought of post-natal depression? Some women suffering from this haven't a clue what they're doing - and could care less. IVF isn't an excuse either.

Edit: Steph J- PND, like pregnancy, a hysterectomy or going through the menopause - is different for all women. No woman will have EXACTLY the same symptoms as another. Some women may sail through all of the above - others will have problems, in some cases, very serious problems. I never suffered PND personally but was very close to someone who did.

I'll have to watch for that,I thought the McCanns were doing advanced damage control by making comments (willingness to take lie detector test) that the police cant comment on due to their laws.
