think of a situation you observed outside school in which deductive reasoning was used incorrectly.write some sentences describing what happened and explaining why you think is a poor deductive reasoning?

Look up the word 'deductive' in your dictionary. It explains that decuctive reasoning is to infer things. If I see a young girl dressed in revealing clothes smoking a cigarette in the parking lot of the school, what does my decutive reasoning make me believe?

Would that reasoning be correct? Or would it be totally wrong?

If I come to a conclusion by observing something...that is deductive reasoning. If that girl I see is not a dumb dora, how am I supposed to know that by my own observation:?

She may be the most innocent and sweet girl in the world but either she doesn't know what she appears to be, or doesn't care.

Your deductive reasoning makes you think that your teacher knows everything. But you would be wrong...RIGHT? :)

So what the lesson is trying to reveal to you is...don't trust your feelings, find out the facts before you decide!!

Deductive reasoning is the following:

All men are mortal (major premise),
Socrates is a man (minor premise),
Therefore Socrates is mortal.
Note that replacing "mortal" with any nonsensical property will not affect the validity of the argument:

All men are purple-skinned,
Socrates is a man,
Therefore Socrates is purple-skinned.
Intuitively, one might deny the major premise or the conclusion; yet anyone accepting the premises must accept the conclusion.
